Our Story

Our Story

Dyslexia Institutes of America was founded in 1997 by Dr. Elaine B. Jett, a graduate of the University of Illinois with a doctorate in early childhood education and a minor in reading and psychology. Dr. Jett, author of three basic reading programs for Sylvan Learning Systems, recognized a problem in the clients she observed as owner of her three Sylvan Learning Centers. These students, in spite of the outstanding educational programs offered by Sylvan, were not successful. These students did not match the growth of others in the program, and often failed to achieve even minimal success with their academic plan.

Through observation, study, and research with actual clients, Dr. Jett  developed a multi-sensory program which successfully diagnosed and treated those with dyslexia in a clinical setting.

Meet the Team

In 2018, more than 20-years after founding Dyslexia Institutes of America, Dr. Jett decided to retire from the day-to-day operation of our organization. She handed the reigns off to a very talented team of professionals. Dr. Jett remains active in our organization as an educational consultant.
